Volleyball is set to be the signature event of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games as the sport returns to its spiritual home.  As well as delivering the greatest ever Olympic volleyball competitions with unparalleled levels of fan engagement, the FIVB is committed to leaving a strong sustainable legacy in Brazil through a range of exciting development and social activities.  This is all part of the FIVB’s vision to become the number one family sport entertainment in the world.

Activity Highlights: 

Volleyball Festival 
Before the Games start, the FIVB will be organising a celebration of the sport with its own volleyball festival which will provide entertainment and run clinics for Copacabana school kids.

Development Training Centre Launch – Media Trip 
The FIVB are setting up two children’s volleyball development training centres.  More than 600 children will participate in the programme and the FIVB will be supporting the centres with funding up until 2020 as part of its work to develop the sport at grassroots level. There will be one training centre in Formiga (a favela located in Tijuca) and one in Leme (an upper-middle-class neighbourhood in the South Zone of the City) and they will be launched on the 2nd and 4th of August.

The Formiga training centre launch is open to the media; please RSVPellen@jtassocs.com  if you are available to attend.    

The shuttle for the media will be departing from the Windsor Plaza Hotel in Copacabana at 9:30 on 2nd August. Transfer back to the Windsor Plaza Hotel is at 12:00.

Volleyball House 
For the very first time at an Olympic Games, the FIVB will have a dedicated house located right on the iconic Copacabana Beach.  This will provide an environment for the FIVB to promote volleyball, and meet with key business and media leaders.  

A number of special receptions will be staged during the Olympics, to acknowledge different partners and key markets, and entry to the Volleyball House will be by invitation only.

Showcase Copacabana beach volleyball courts 
In front of the Volleyball House will be showcase beach volleyball courts.  There will be six courts in total with three different themes: Court of the Future showcasing the LED net, Kids Corner and Volleyball Your Way.  These will host a variety of special clinics, competitions and exhibition matches every day of the Games.

Interview opportunities
There will be opportunities for one-on-one interviews with FIVB President - Dr. Ary S. Graça F° as well as past and current athletes at the Volleyball House and also the showcase beach volleyball courts.
